Are you in need of a dental crown, but don’t want to go through the lengthy process to get one made and then placed? A CEREC crown may be for you! At Helotes Family Dentistry, we’re proud to offer this same-day dental technology so that we can give you the best treatment possible. First, we’ll explain why you might need a dental crown, then what CEREC is and how it works.
Why Would You Need a Dental Crown?
Before we talk about CEREC, let’s discuss why you might need a dental crown for cosmetic and restorative purposes. For example, you might need a crown to repair a broken tooth, cover a discolored or irregularly shaped tooth, to strengthen a tooth after a root canal procedure, or to protect a tooth that is cracked, weakened, excessively worn down, or otherwise damaged. A crown can also be used to secure a dental bridge or to complete a dental implant. Whatever the reason, CEREC technology is a great way to speed up the process so you can have an improved smile quicker!
What Is CEREC?
“CEREC” stands for Chairside Economic Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics. We use this state-of-the-art technology to craft realistic-looking dental crowns. CEREC technology eliminates the traditional process of getting a crown made and placed over several appointments. Instead, in just one visit, we can create and place a crown that looks just like your other healthy teeth.
How Does CEREC Work?
The first step in the CEREC process is to take a digital impression of the tooth that needs the crown. Gone are the days where we’d need to take an impression with that messy, uncomfortable goop. Then, the CEREC software will use those images to create a virtual model of the crown. Once we’ve examined the model to make sure everything looks right, we’ll send the information to our milling machine, which produces the custom crown from a ceramic block. In nearly no time your new crown will be ready, with no need for a temporary crown! We’ll then bond the crown to your tooth and ensure that everything looks and feels good.
